3-Day Mount Toubkal Trek with Acclimatization: Safe Summit Experience

Reach the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m) safely and confidently with our 3-day guided trek. Designed for hikers who want proper altitude acclimatization, this itinerary includes a dedicated training day to master crampons and ice axes before your summit push. Travel with certified Berber guides, enjoy mountain hut accommodation, and experience breathtaking views of the High Atlas, lush valleys, and traditional Berber villages. This is the ideal balanced trek for a successful North African summit.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech to Imlil & Ascent to Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)

Your adventure begins with a scenic private transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m), the historic gateway to the High Atlas. After meeting your guide and mule team, you’ll trek through the Mizane Valley, passing terraced farms, walnut groves, and the traditional village of Aremd. The trail continues past the sacred shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, climbing steadily over rocky paths and mule tracks. Expect approximately 6 hours of hiking as you ascend to the Toubkal Refuge for your first night at altitude.

Day 2: Acclimatization & Mountain Skills Training

Proper acclimatization is key to a safe and successful summit. After breakfast, you’ll embark on a guided day hike toward either Tizi Ounoums Pass or Tizi Ougane. During this walk, your expert guides will teach you essential winter mountaineering skills, including how to properly wear crampons, walk on snow/ice, and use an ice axe for self-arrest. You’ll return to the refuge for a late lunch and afternoon rest. Note: In case of unfavorable weather forecasts, this day may be adapted into your summit day for maximum safety.

Day 3: Toubkal Summit (4,167m) & Return to Marrakech

Rise before dawn for your summit attempt. Guided by experienced local mountaineers, you’ll navigate the south cirque and cross high-altitude scree fields toward the ridge. The terrain is straightforward but physically demanding due to altitude and loose rock. Upon reaching the plateau, a final short walk leads to the Mount Toubkal summit, where you’ll be rewarded with uninterrupted 360° views stretching from the Marrakech plains to the Sahara. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend steadily back to Imlil and enjoy a comfortable transfer back to Marrakech.
