Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech to Imlil & Ascent to Toubkal Refuge (3,207m)

Your journey begins with a scenic private transfer from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m), the gateway to the High Atlas. After meeting your certified Berber guide and mule team, you’ll trek through the Mizane Valley, passing terraced farms, walnut groves, and the traditional village of Aremd. The trail continues past the sacred shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, climbing steadily over rocky paths and mule tracks. Expect approximately 6 hours of hiking as you ascend to the Toubkal Refuge for an early night and altitude acclimatization.

Day 2: Toubkal Summit (4,167m) & Return to Marrakech

Wake before dawn for the final push. Your guide will lead you up the south cirque, navigating scree slopes and high-altitude terrain toward the ridge. After a rewarding scramble, you’ll reach the Mount Toubkal summit for breathtaking 360° views spanning from the Marrakech plains to the Sahara. After celebrating at the top, you’ll descend quickly back to Imlil, where your driver awaits for a comfortable transfer back to Marrakech, arriving by evening.

Trek Difficulty & Preparation Tips

Difficulty Level: Challenging. Requires excellent physical fitness, prior high-altitude hiking experience, and mental readiness for steep, rocky terrain.
Best Season: May to October (summer conditions). November to April requires crampons & ice axe (available for rent).
Altitude Note: Rapid ascent increases altitude sickness risk. Stay hydrated, pace yourself, and inform your guide immediately if you feel unwell.
Essential Gear: Sturdy broken-in hiking boots, layered clothing, wind/rain jacket, headlamp, sleeping bag (rated -10°C), trekking poles, and sun protection.
